The El Paso Community Foundation and Because of You Fund are proud to announce the live performance of the You Rock! Music Camp bands on Friday, July 19 at 7:30 p.m.! The camp, an inclusive youth-centered music and empowerment camp dedicated to girls, ages 9-17 will showcase performances from five bands comprised of 24 campers. West Texas soul pop group and headliner, Estereomance will perform directly following the You Rock! bands.
The music camp, currently in progress through July 19 at the El Paso Community College - Rio Grande Campus has assembled an exciting and knowledgeable team of teachers, band coaches, and volunteers. The team is instructing campers on playing their instruments, writing an original song and preparing them to perform live with their band. Innovative workshops are encouraging and supporting campers in their creative and personal pursuits.
For the second year in a row, all five You Rock! bands will perform live on an outdoor stage on Oregon St, in downtown at the El Paso Community Foundation Plaza Classic Film Festival. The performance is free to the public. Headliner, Estereomance, a contemporary art-pop project will follow the five You Rock! bands on stage. The group composed of producer Manuel Calderon (El Cosmophonico), multi-instrumentalist and singer Adria Del Valle and vocalist Paulina Reza, have been performing their flavor of West Texas soul-pop in the El Paso Texas and Cd. Juarez region since 2019.
Jim Ward of Sparta shared his sentiments about the camp, “Once again I am blown away by the ability of these young ladies to learn and create so quickly. The raw talent in our community is formidable and we have to remember that El Paso is important.”
You Rock! Is an Inclusive Rock Camp, sponsored by the Because of You Fund, and the El Paso Community Foundation with help from Jim Ward of Sparta and Kristine Ward. The mission of You Rock! is to provide a transformative musical experience for girls, as well as genderfluid, non-binary and trans youth ages 9-17. Campers learn to play an instrument, form a band, write an original song and perform live on stage. Through musical expression El Paso’s youth are empowered to express themselves, address important social issues, and create positive change through community-building and skill-sharing.
