Most people know Daniel Villasenor as the spikey-haired “punk pianist” of nueva cumbia band Frontera Bugalú. They’ll hear another side of him when Villasenor headlines the El Paso Community Foundation Jewel Box Series at the Philanthropy Theatre at 2:30 pm Sunday, December 8.
General admission tickets for his concert, Pianist — Daniel Villasenor, are $15, on sale at the Plaza Theatre Box Office (no service fees) and Ticketmaster (with service fees).
Daniel began playing piano at age 3, later studying with Barbara Hain. His influences range from classical (Rachmaninoff, Beethoven, Chopin) to film composers (Danny Elfman, James Horner, Philip Glass). Last March, Daniel was chosen from a field of 24 pianists to perform in London as part of World Piano Day. His Jewel Box program will consist of original compositions inspired by “dreams about traveling back in time, imagery of mountains, fog, rain, and forest wildlife,” he said.
Now in its ninth season, the Jewel Box Series was created in partnership with El Paso Live in 2014 to host local performing artists and groups in that jewel box of a venue, the Philanthropy Theatre in the Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Centre.
The venue allows only clear bags or small clutches. Go to elpasolive.com for details.
