The El Paso Community Foundation Jewel Box Series at the Philanthropy Theatre was created in 2014 to provide a first-class space for local performing arts groups. That space is the beautiful, intimate Philanthropy Theatre, a 200-seat venue inside the Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center. In partnership with El Paso Live, rent is waived for one day of rehearsal and one day of performance, liability insurance is covered and the Foundation assists with promotion and a playbill for each show. Among those who have produced shows in the series are screenwriter and playwright Mark Medoff, El Paso theater icon Hector Serrano, Camilla Carr, Border Theatre and singers Emily Davis and Jamielynn Amato. The Jewel Box Series returns for its 11th season October 2026 through May 2027, with performances on the second Sunday of each month.
