Due to the pandemic, the El Paso Community Foundation is giving area students an extra month to apply for scholarships, including one of our newest — the Dr. William Springer Scholarship for Philosophy.
A true Renaissance man, Dr. William Springer was a teacher, activist, world-traveler, multi-linguist, and devoted family man whose life passion was the study and teaching of philosophy, including a 43-year tenure on the University of Texas at El Paso faculty.
Dr. Springer died of prostate cancer on January 13, 2021. His family wanted to honor his passion and legacy by creating the Dr. William Springer Scholarship for Philosophy in the El Paso Community Foundation.
The $1,000 scholarship is available for high school seniors and undergraduate and graduate students at UTEP, El Paso Community College, and New Mexico State University who are passionate about philosophy. Preference will be given to low-income Hispanic students.
