The seventh season of the El Paso Community Foundation Jewel Box Series at the Philanthropy Theatre comes to a dramatic, touching conclusion with the stage version of Mitch Albom’s best-selling Tuesdays with Morrie.
Directed by El Paso theater icon Hector Serrano for Eden Performing Arts, Tuesdays with Morrie will be performed at 2:30 pm Sunday, May 14 in the Philanthropy Theatre, above the box office on the second floor of the Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Centre. Tickets are $15, on sale at the Plaza Theatre Box Office (where no service charge is assessed) and Ticketmaster.com (service charges apply).
Tuesdays with Morrie chronicles Detroit Free Press columnist Mitch Albom’s conversations about life, love, death, and more with his former sociology professor, Morrie Schwartz, as he was dying of Lou Gehrig’s disease (Schwartz died in 1995). It was turned into a stage play in 2002 by Jeffrey Hatcher and Albom. It’s performed with the permission of Dramatists Play Service.
“We chose this play both because it is a very human story about aging, and because it is a wonderful vehicle for two talented actors,” said Serrano, who is assisted by Lorely Rodriguez, with Danny Fogle Jr. as Mitch and Tracy Levin as Morrie.
The Jewel Box Series was created in partnership with El Paso Live in 2014 to host local performing artists in that jewel box of a venue, the Philanthropy Theatre. Go to epcf.org or call 915-533-4020 for more information. To donate to the Jewel Box series, go to epcf.org/jewelboxseries.
Stay tuned! Applications for the 2023-2024 season will be announced soon!
