Applications to Apply for Scholarship to Attend National Down Syndrome Congress Convention in Florida Now Open

Applications to apply for a scholarship to attend the National Down Syndrome Congress Convention are open! Every year, the Down Syndrome Coalition for El Paso (DSC) awards a scholarship to an individual with Down syndrome and up to two family members or legal guardians to help cover the costs of attending the convention. The deadline to apply is, Friday, May 5, 2023.

The National Down Syndrome Congress Convention is held annually, with this being its 51st year. The convention will take place in Orlando, Florida, from July 20-23, 2023 with individuals and families from around the globe attending. The convention includes workshops, and conferences with topics that include: lifespan, siblings, youth and adults to empower and inspire. There will also be an advocacy boot camp, deep dive sessions for immersive learning on various topics, a fun run and banquet to celebrate one another on this fun-filled weekend!

“The Down Syndrome Coalition for El Paso is focused on providing community support in the region for those living with Down syndrome, but it’s important to remember that there is a global community sharing the same experiences. In fact, it’s more of a global family, and we’re happy to provide the opportunity for a family to visit that larger family and immerse themselves in a fellowship dedicated to learning more about ways to not only live with Down syndrome, but to thrive.,” said Adam Tirres, Program Officer, El Paso Community Foundation.

Founded in January 2015, with the support of the El Paso Community Foundation, the Down Syndrome Coalition for El Paso (DSC) filled a need for community support, resources, and advocacy for families of individuals with Down syndrome and other intellectual challenges.
