Applications for 2023-2024 Jewel Box Series now being accepted

Fresh off the conclusion of a very successful seventh season, the El Paso Community Foundation Jewel Box Series at the Philanthropy Theatre is accepting applications for its eighth season.

Applications are open to local performing artists and performing arts groups working in theater, dance, music, multi-media, and more. The deadline to apply is 11:59 pm Friday, July 28. Go to epcf.org/jewelbox to apply.

The eighth season will run on the second Sunday of each month from October 2023 to May 2024 in the Philanthropy Theatre, above the Plaza Theatre Box Office in the Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Centre.

The Jewel Box Series was launched in 2014 to foster and showcase community talent in the inspiring and intimate atmosphere of the sparkling “jewel box” of a venue, the 200-seat Philanthropy Theatre. The series was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic near the end of its sixth season in 2020, but returned for its seventh season last October.

The Foundation partners with El Paso Live to help ease the financial burden of producing a show in the Philanthropy Theatre, its name inspired by all who helped build it.

Since its inception, the Jewel Box Series has hosted programs by late playwright-screenwriter Mark Medoff, playwright Camilla Carr, Austin Savage and Border Theatre, and local theater icon Hector Serrano; musicians Emily Davis, Doug Adamz, Gene Keller, and Golden Groove; and dance’s Mountain Movement, Tumbleweed Dance Collective and Snake Charmer and the Belly Dancer.
