It’s time to make music again, El Paso! The El Paso International Music Foundation is returning to a full schedule of in-person and online Make Music Day El Paso events on Tuesday, June 21.
Make Music Day launched in France in 1982 and takes place every year on the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. It is open to anyone who wants to participate and every kind of musician — young, old, amateur, professional — of every type of musical persuasion. It turns parks and streets into concert venues.
El Paso events include performances by Texas Hart, Ray Arreola and 1-800, a rhythm band jam, bucket drumming, a city-wide jam session, a harmonica class, and a ukulele class. Participating venues are Keystone Heritage Park and Botanical Gardens, Genuine Reference Studios, and Star City Studios.
Three venues are hosting live music nights as part of Make Music Day: Cash Restaurant and Bar; Mona Bar of Modern Art; and The Rockin’ Bar.
A full schedule is listed below.
In addition to the live presentations, the El Paso International Music Foundation, an affiliate of the El Paso Community Foundation, will post local artist videos on the Make Music Day El Paso Facebook page. Artists are encouraged to share their posts by using the hashtag #makemusicelpaso. Selected entries will be shared on the page.
EPIMF strongly encourages everyone to take this day to make music in your homes, out in your neighborhoods, or wherever the music takes you. For more on EPIMF, go to epimf.org.
