Somos' 'Kid Turboni' reigns at Jewel Box Series this Valentine's weekend

El Paso’s Somos Performance Group debuted in the Jewel Box Series last season and returns with two performances of its new show, the Mark J. Costello dramedy Kid Turboni Brings the Rain this Valentine’s Day weekend.

Performances are at 7 pm Saturday, February 14 (Valentine’s Day) and 2:30 pm Sunday, February 15 in the Plaza Theatre’s Philanthropy Theatre.

Part of the El Paso Community Foundation Jewel Box Series at the Philanthropy Theatre’s 10th anniversary season, general admission tickets are $15 for each show, on sale at the Plaza Theatre Box Office (no service fees) and Ticketmaster (with service fees). The box office is open 10 am-3 pm weekdays and three hours before showtime.

The family friendly Kid Turboni Brings the Rain is about a young housing project resident, Kid Turboni, who attempts to break the stifling Borderland heat by stealing rain from Mother Nature. But Kid has bigger problems as the temperatures soar, making everyone ask: Can Kid Turboni bring the rain?

Emma Leigh Montes directs the six-member cast, a mix of child and adult actors, including KISS FM morning show co-host Grizz, who plays himself.

The Jewel Box Series was created in 2014 in partnership with El Paso Live to host local performing artists and groups in that jewel box of a venue, the Philanthropy Theatre in the Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Centre. The monthly series runs each fall through spring.

The venue allows only clear bags or small clutches. Go to elpasolive.com.
