“Having newsrooms on both sides of the border is a perfect reflection of the community, on a personal, business and political level,” KVIA News Director Brenda de Anda-Swann told The Guardian for a recent article about the Puente News Collaborative.

The project, launched this year, brings together eight area news outlets in a unique binational collaboration, supported by Microsoft and the El Paso Community Foundation, to report stories about significant issues facing El Paso and Ciudad Juárez.

The collaborative consists of the University of Texas at El Paso’s Borderzine, El Paso Inc., El Paso Matters (a supporting organization of the El Paso Community Foundation), The El Paso Times, UTEP’s KTEP (88.5 FM), KVIA (ABC7), Juarez’s La Verdad Noticias, and NoticiasYa El Paso (KINT TV Channel 26).

In the months since Puente’s launch, the collaborative has focused on two major areas that uniquely affect the borderland: migration and the pandemic.

We encourage you to head to their individual sites to check-out their coverage through the collaborative, part of a Microsoft pilot project to enhance local journalism.
