Bright Hearts of El Paso Fund raises $240,000 to assist more than 900 El Paso Electric customers

The Bright Hearts of El Paso Fund distributed over $240,000 to assist more than 900 El Paso County residents in paying electric bills. The fund concluded its campaign on April 30, 2021.

The fund represents a partnership between the faith community of El Paso including Temple Mount Sinai and the Catholic Diocese, and the Interfaith Alliance, the El Paso Community Foundation, and El Paso Electric.

“The success of the Bright Hearts project is an example of why I love to be part of the community of El Paso,” said Bishop Mark Seitz. “We care for one another, especially those most in need, and when given an opportunity we step up to help them. This project brought together a diverse group including the faith community, foundations and businesses along with El Paso Electric to respond to a critical need. I am very grateful to all who assisted and to all the generous members of our community who contributed. You certainly showed yourselves to be Bright Hearts!”

“What an incredible symbol of the strength, the compassion and the beauty of El Paso. Thank you to everyone who made this effort such a success,” said Rabbi Ben Zeidman on behalf of Temple Mount Sinai.

The fund provided payment assistance to El Paso Electric customers who were behind on electric bill payments due to the pandemic. Donations to the Bright Hearts of El Paso Fund came from people and businesses over the course of about three months.

“This fund proves the caring nature of our community,” said Eric Pearson, President and CEO of the El Paso Community Foundation. “We received hundreds of gifts—$5 and up—from hundreds seeking to help people in need.”

The total funds distributed includes El Paso Electric’s match to every dollar raised by the public.

“We thank the unwavering support of El Paso’s faith community, who inaugurated this very initiative, to partners and vendors that we work with on a daily basis underscoring how much we are all in this together to help as many families as possible,” reflected EPE President and CEO Kelly Tomblin. “With so many families still in need for utility payment assistance, we strongly encourage everyone to please contact our Customer Care Team who are ready and willing to get you the assistance you need.”
