Congratulations to Basketball in the Barrio and its co-founders, Steven Yellen and Rus Bradburd, for 30 years of teaaching kids in Segundo Barrio all about the sport, plus music, dance, literature and so much more.

This year’s camp runs today through Sunday at the Armijo Center. It is for children 6 to 10 years old who live in Segundo Barrio or attend Aoy, Alamo or Roosevelt schools. It is sponsored by Household Furniture. Campers pay $1 and receive instruction, lunch, a basketball, a t-shirt, a peace poster and a bilingual children’s book.

Yellen is a former UTEP basketball player and current color analyst for UTEP basketball radio broadcasts. Bradburd is a former New Mexico State University basketball coach-turned-best-selling author.

Basketball in the Barrio is an affiliate of the El Paso Community Foundation.
