Before I Die ...

The empty lot on the corner of Oregon and Missouri in downtown will soon house a five story, 50+ unit building with an environmentally friendly green roof. But until constructed starts in 2014, works of art from local artists are displayed as well as several giant community chalkboards intended to bring people together by writing their goals down for all to see. The chalk boards read: Before I die I want to … Chalk is available at the boards for passers-by to write with.

The artist housing project is a project of the El Paso Community Foundation, the City of El Paso and Artspace Projects Inc. Artspace’s mission is to create, foster, and preserve affordable space for artists and arts organizations. It pursues this mission through development projects, asset management activities, consulting services, and community-building activities that serve artists and arts organizations of all disciplines, cultures, and economic circumstances. By creating this space, Artspace supports the continued professional growth of artists, and enhances the cultural and economic vitality of the surrounding communities.
