Mary Ruth Wood was a dedicated public school volunteer for more than 30 years, working with students to impart skills that improved their lives. She enjoyed being a part of many classrooms over the years. Putting aside her desire to become an art teacher as a young woman to focus on being a full-time mom, she volunteered in her son’s and daughter’s schools throughout their grade school and high school educations, often illustrating her talks with antiques and historical objects from her own collection. Proud of her daughter’s adult career in special education, Mary Ruth worked for many years with students with IDD, imparting life skills through cooking demonstrations, crafting, and many other activities.
Her down-to-earth, no-nonsense demeanor allowed her to share these skills with students while supporting their individual needs. The Mary Ruth Wood Elevate and Celebrate Fund will continue her work in the classroom and beyond.
