KEEP BIG BEND WILD (KBBW) is a collaborative effort by citizens, working with the National Park Service, who are working to ensure that the wild character of Big Bend will continue and thrive. We want to assure that our grandchildren can enjoy the unparalleled views of undeveloped mountains and desert, and the darkest skies in the country, the same way we do today. We can’t take this for granted, as there are many threats on the horizon.
KBBW is building public support to revive the decades-old effort to assure that the still-wild landscapes of Texas’s largest and best loved national park be permanently protected from additional roads, buildings, and other human-made infrastructure other than trails. The goal is to see about 90% of the national park – the places still without roads or modern buildings – to be designated by Congress as federal wilderness.
