Mission of Capacitar en la Frontera: Capacitar en La Frontera is a bi-national program established in 2008 that offers trauma healing and wellness workshops and trainings to people of the borderlands region—particularly in Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico,-El Paso, Texas, USA and small communities of the surrounding areas—who are affected by border violence, domestic and community violence, immigration, and trauma. We utilize a popular education, grassroots model that depends on collaboration with existing networks to empower individuals, community, and society through healing and transforming trauma.

Charitable Purpose Capacitar en la Frontera: Those served by Capacitar en la Frontera are among the most socially and economically vulnerable in our border region. We target our capacity-building workshops and trainings to indigenous multipliers and leaders in the communities, organizations, and systems that serve these marginalized populations. Those we serve on both sides of the border encounter our programs through local human rights centers, women’s centers, shelters, schools, community centers, and integrated health centers, etc. On the El Paso side of the border, many of these individuals live either in shelters, detention centers, or colonias. We serve without discrimination or distinction based on any dimension of culture, including country of origin, immigration status, gender, race, ethnicity, etc.

Description of Programming: Capacitar en la Frontera teaches tools for healing and transforming trauma in our border region. We offer short workshops as well as in-depth training, provided by Capacitar Founder Patricia Cane, PhD, and Capacitar International Trainer and El Paso resident, Kathy Revtyak, LCSW-S. The local teams of mulitipliers provide workshops on both sides of the border to groups and agencies, seeking to build capacity within systems so that Capacitar practices can be disseminated in their outreach. Over the last decade, we have served in DHS detention facilities, child welfare settings, hospitals, community health and behavioral health settings, and settings that serve migrants and refugees. Our programming also serves to support volunteers, interns, staff and systems affected by secondary trauma and compassion fatigue.

Join us on Monday, March 10 at 5:30 PM for a Wellness Evening with Capacitar Founder/Director, Patricia Cane and Capacitar en la Frontera. Event will take place at Foundation Room, 333 N. Oregon.
