As one of the largest border communities in the world, the people of El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua form the best example of unity between the United States and México. And to highlight this connection, the artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer has partnered with the El Paso Community Foundation, Rubin Center for the Visual Arts, Fundación Comunitaria de la Frontera Norte, and the cities of El Paso and Ciudad Juárez to bring BORDER TUNER.
“Border Tuner” is a large-scale, participatory art installation designed to interconnect the cities of El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. Powerful searchlights make “bridges of light” that open live sound channels for communication across the US-Mexico border. The piece creates a fluid canopy of light that can be modified by visitors to six interactive stations, three placed in El Paso and three in Juárez.
A tax-deductible donation to “Border Tuner” will help with the production of this iconic, large-scale, binational art installation.
