Borderland Rescue Fund

A Compassionate Response to Animal Welfare in the Borderland

Keeping Pets Happy and Healthy. Keeping Families Together.

The Borderland Rescue Fund, an initiative of the El Paso Community Foundation, was created to meet urgent animal welfare needs across our region—especially during times of financial strain. At the heart of this work is our Public Pet Pantry Initiative, a community-powered effort designed to keep pets in loving homes and ease the burden on families and shelters alike.

đŸ„« The Public Pet Pantry Initiative - A Lifeline for Pets & the People Who Love Them

Too many families are forced to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their pets. Our Public Pet Pantries remove that impossible choice.

In partnership with the City of El Paso, we’ve opened 14 free pet pantries—one at every El Paso Public Library branch. These pantries provide no-cost pet food and supplies, available during regular library hours and open to anyone who needs support.

How it works:

  • Take what you need - We ask you take one bag at a time.
  • Leave what you can
  • No paperwork. No questions asked.

Each pantry is stocked entirely through community donations and maintained to ensure safety, dignity, and fairness for all.

Why It Matters

  • Keeps pets with their families
  • Reduces shelter intake and overcrowding
  • Supports families facing temporary hardship
  • Strengthens the entire community

Your donation directly keeps these shelves stocked. Every $1 donated helps us distribute 10lbs of pet food!

Supporting the Front Lines of Animal Rescue

In addition to serving families, we operate a Rescue Pantry that distributes food and supplies to local rescue organizations stretched beyond capacity. By helping rescues meet basic needs, we allow them to focus limited funds on lifesaving care.

Help Us Keep the Pantries Open and Stocked

There is still time to help. Your gift—no matter the size—directly supports the Public Pet Pantry Initiative and ensures this critical resource continues into the coming year.

Ways to Help

  • Donate funds to keep pantries stocked year-round
  • Drop off supplies (sealed food, litter, leashes, toys, pet essentials)
  • Host a donation drive in your neighborhood or workplace
