A Compassionate Response to the Animal Welfare Crisis in Our Region
The Borderland Rescue Fund, an initiative of the El Paso Community Foundation, is addressing the urgent needs of animals and the people who care for them through three community-powered programs:
đŸ 1. Grant Program â Supporting the Front Lines We recently awarded our first round of grants to local rescues and animal welfare organizations working tirelessly to save and rehabilitate both domesticated animals and wildlife. These flexible grants help cover critical essentials like food and supplies.
đ„« 2. Pantry Initiative â Feeding Pets, Easing Burdens Weâre excited to launch our Public Pet Pantries at all 14 El Paso Public Library branches in partnership with the City of El Paso. These pantries will provide free pet food and supplies to families in needâno questions asked. Each pantry will operate during regular library hours and is stocked by community donations.
Basic guidelines:
-Take only what you need
-Leave what you can
-Donations of sealed food, leashes, toys, litter, and pet supplies are always welcome
-Pantries are monitored for safety and fairness
We also run a Rescue Pantry, which distributes supplies to local rescues stretched beyond capacity.
đ„ 3. Emergency Medical Fund â Coming Soon
Launching soon, our Emergency Medical Fund will provide urgent veterinary care support for community members stepping up to save found animals. This fund will also support low-cost and no-cost spay/neuter initiatives, vaccinations and microchips.
Together, we can reduce shelter intake, keep pets with their families, and support the people doing the hard work of rescue. Want to help? Donate, drop off supplies, or host a drive.
