Steel and Paint

45” x40” x 36”

2017

Michelle Fluekiger graduated from the University of Texas of El Paso with a Bachelor of Fines Arts in Sculpture in May of 2019. She has lived in the Southwest of the United States most of her life in addition to spending a few of her younger years in South Korea. Through traveling at a young age, this leads her to a primarily influence through myths and legends from various cultures across the globe and strives to have her fellow peers question the world around them. Despite the confrontations of those claiming she should “get her head out of the clouds”, she stands by her claim that although you might not see these creatures outside of books and cartoons today, does not mean they never existed, especially when these creatures are found in cultures from across the globe. Michelle’s choices of medium vary on the idea she wishes to convey, but has stronger foundations in welding steel, utilizing foam, and dabbling in two-part resins. She views the world around her in a filter, seeing ordinary objects as methods to achieve various aspects of her work. Therefore, she is open to experimenting in unknown mediums in order to develop her arsenal of artistic skills.
