Our Mission

Frontera News is a member supported, nonpartisan media organization that informs the greater Trans Pecos Big Bend Region of Texas and northern Mexico as well as engages and collaborates with the community on government, politics, business, healthcare, education, and culture. We communicate with the public on these issues to create and move conversations towards a more educated and informed region.

News and Coverage Area

Frontera News covers a wide range of issues including local, state, and federal government as it relates to the communities in the Trans Pecos and Big Bend Region. This area encompasses the communities in the Big Bend Country, the Trans Pecos, the Davis Mountains, the Permian Basin, the border region, and northern Mexico.

We also cover the political landscape, including candidates and the issues related to public policy. Additionally, we focus our sights on the business community which drives the regional economy, education and education policy for both K-12 and higher education. In addition to news coverage, we aim to host candidate forums in the region to highlight the policies affecting local communities.

Frontera News will also focus on collaborating with journalists, businesses, and educators in the region to tell stories about our areas of attention and host events.

About us

Frontera News was founded in 2023 by Alberto Halpern, Robert Halpern, and Rosario Salgado Halpern. Alberto has spent years working in journalism as a managing editor, reporter, and photographer. He has also worked in public policy roles for elected officials and a political action committee. Robert is a lifelong journalist, having worked with The El Paso Times, the Odessa American, and The Big Bend Sentinel and Presidio International newspapers. Robert and Rosario, who are married, owned and published two weekly newspapers for 30 years in the Big Bend Region, creating strong relationships with the business community and local elected officials. They bring more than 40 years of combined news gathering, fact-checking, and award winning experience to bring honest and fair news to help inform our region.
