Omar and Alex Muñoz are brothers, product leaders, and the co-founders of Yurny Labs, a product design and engineering studio operating across the Ciudad Juárez and El Paso border. With over a decade of experience building and scaling digital products, they have led cross-functional teams of designers and developers to bring ideas to life that have reached millions of users.

Their work lives at the intersection of business, design, and technology, driven by a shared mission to build digital experiences that are not only delightful but also drive tangible business outcomes. Together, Omar and Alex have co-founded a VC-backed startup, competed in global hackathons, and earned top placements for innovative products built in AI and Web3. Through Yurny Labs and their strategic workshops, they are passionate about empowering teams to bridge the gap between complex technology and human-centric design.

APRIL 16th, 2026: AI & MACHINE LEARNING FOR RESEARCH AND EDUCATION

Professionals, educators, researchers, and lifelong learners across the Borderplex are invited to join an interactive working session focused on how emerging technologies are being used to support learning, research, and creative problem-solving. This session explores practical applications of modern tools, including large language models (LLMs) and educational app development for educators, alongside machine learning techniques that help researchers analyze data, uncover patterns, and generate predictions.

Through real-world examples and demonstrations, participants will see how these tools are being used today in classroom settings, research projects, and professional workflows. Mission Amplified is designed as a participatory session where attendees can see how modern tools are being used in practice, ask questions, and explore how similar approaches might apply within their own industries or areas of interest. No prior technical background is required.

Jorge Alberto López Gallardo is a Professor of Physics at The University of Texas at El Paso with decades of experience in research, teaching, and educational innovation. Throughout his career, he has worked at the intersection of science, technology, and education, with research spanning physics, materials science, data analysis, and interdisciplinary applications. In recent years, Jorge has incorporated modern computational and language-based tools into course preparation, educational content creation, research projects, and experimental learning environments. He has led workshops on building educational applications, explored machine learning methods in research, and mentored students developing technology-driven learning tools. A dedicated educator and mentor, Jorge has held leadership roles at UTEP, collaborated with national and international research institutions, and received numerous awards for teaching, research, and mentoring. His work reflects a long-standing commitment to accessible education, hands-on learning, and building pathways into STEM and technology-driven fields.
