Teachers across Texas continue adapting their teaching methods to support students in a remote learning environment. A new initiative called #TeachersCan encourages Texans to show their appreciation for these dedicated educators — current teachers and those who had a profound impact on their lives — by entering their favorite educators into a drawing.
The nominees automatically will be entered into a drawing for a host of exclusive prizes. Winners will be announced daily during the special, week-long, virtual National Teacher Appreciation Week May 4-8.
#TeachersCan is designed to elevate the status of teachers and the teaching profession across Texas. More than 100 Texas companies (including H-E-B, Whataburger, Kendra Scott, Valero, the San Antonio Spurs, and Dell Technologies), statewide associations, community groups, chambers of commerce, and universities have signed on as supporting partners, with more joining every day.
The TeachersCan.org website is a hub for teacher appreciation content and resources, encouraging teachers to share their stories and showcase their tremendous care for students during this challenging time. It also serves as a platform for others to thank teachers for their critical contributions to the future of Texas.
#TeachersCan debuted April 13 with the premiere of a 30-second video celebrating the resilience, creativity, and adaptability of Texas teachers; the launch of the TeachersCan.org website; and @TXTeachersCan Facebook and Instagram pages. Through this initiative, teachers and the public are encouraged to show their appreciation by participating in a variety of ways, including:
● Visit TeachersCan.org to nominate a teacher for exclusive prizes ranging from gift cards from H-E-B, Valero, Whataburger and others as well as the chance to win free groceries for a year, home office and fitness equipment as well as a “back to school” bash when campuses are permitted to reopen.
● Share the #TeachersCan video, available through the website, and tag the teachers in your life.
● Use the prompts available at TeachersCan.org to express gratitude for a current teacher in your life, or one who had a significant impact on you personally, by posting a video on social media using the hashtags #TeachersCan and #ThankATeacher
● Teachers may use the prompts available at TeachersCan.org to share stories on social media of why they teach, individual stories of creativity, courage and resilience, and what they wish others knew about teaching profession using the hashtag #TeachersCan
The El Paso Community Foundation is proud to partner with The Council on Regional Economic Expansion and Educational Development (CREEED) in supporting the #TeachersCan campaign.
