Fund created for EP County Medical Society PPE initiative
March 30, 2020
The El Paso Community Foundation has created a fund to help the El Paso County Medical Society address a serious shortage of N95 respirator masks and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) desperately needed by outpatient physicians and healthcare workers as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the medical society, hospitals have their own supplies and suppliers, but N95 respirator masks are very difficult to obtain for outpatient physicians and other providers in El Paso County.
Additionally, outpatient physicians have no store of other PPE items, such as goggles/face shields, gloves, and hazmat suits. As a result, many providers are unable to safely see or test patients, shunting more patients unnecessarily to emergency rooms.
The El Paso Community Foundation will match donations dollar for dollar to the El Paso County Medical Society COVID-19 Masks and PPE Fund.
