Cultivate returns on January 18

The first of the quarterly Cultivate Forums of 2018 will include a presentation on harvesting rain water and a short documentary on farming.
The next Cultivate Forum on Local Food Systems and Sustainability will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, January 18 in the El Paso Community Foundation’s Foundation Room, 333 N. Oregon, across from San Jacinto Plaza. It is free and open to the public.
On the program:
• “Rainwater Capture and Harvesting,” by Dr. John Walton, an environmental engineering professor in the Civil Engineering department of the University of Texas at El Paso
• “The Last Desert Grassland: Protecting New Mexico’s Otero Mesa,” by Kevin Bixby, Executive Director of the Southwest Environmental Center
• “Jardin de Milagros — Where Does the Food Go??,” by farmer Jerry Hobson
• “Farming for the Future,” Aditi Desai’s 7-minute 2013 documentary on a fifth generation Virginia farmer’s move to a more natural, environmentally healthy approach to farming
