Stanley M. Johanson Estate Planning Seminar returns

Expert estate-planning attorney Stanley M. Johanson will discuss changes in federal and state law in the El Paso Community Foundation’s 18th annual Estate Planning Seminar.

The seminar — for attorneys, certified public accountants and financial planners — will be from 8 a.m. to noon Friday, February 23 in the Foundation Room, 333 N. Oregon. Doors open at 7:30 a.m.

The course provides analysis of recent federal estate and gift tax statutes, regulations and case decisions related to valuation issues, “defined value” clauses, family limited partnerships, the marital deduction, life insurance, individual retirement accounts, and more. It includes one hour of ethics.

Participants in the course will receive 3.5 credit hours (CPE or CFP), or 3.25 credit hours (MCLE).

Cost is $85, including printed materials. Free parking will be available in the Mills Plaza Parking Garage. A full breakfast will be hosted by WestStar Wealth Management Services.

Professor Johanson is the James A. Elkins Centennial Chair in Law and a University Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Texas at Austin law school. A wills, estate planning and property law expert, the oft-awarded professor has a bachelor’s degree from Yale University, a bachelor of laws degree from the University of Washington and a master of laws degree from Harvard University.
